The New 3Rs is continuing to work on a series of innovative digital animations that highlight Black women’s contributions in STEAM.
One woman featured in this curriculum will be Hazel Scott, a jazz and classical pianist and singer who vocally denounced racial discrimination and segregation and advocated for improving the representation of Black Americans in the arts. Her passion for justice led her to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1950, during the McCarthy era. Her activism played a part in the sudden cancellation of her television variety program, The Hazel Scott Show, just a week after her testimony.
