The Cycle of a Dream: A Kid’s Introduction to Structural Racism in America
By Kimberly Narain, MD, PhD, MPH, Illustrations by Mike Motz

For any adult who wants to explain how racism started and continues in America to a child, this is the perfect book. The author, Kimberly Narain, shows how slavery was used for free labor to build the “New World.” She shows how Black folks initially achieved and thrived after slavery was abolished. However, racist systems were implemented to hamper people of color from attaining success, and it continues today. It has become structural. As a result, people of color have been blocked from attaining generational success (i.e., multiple generations of higher education, wealth building, and more).
