Creole Lady of New Orleans

Shared by Dannie Gore, Sr.

A mixture of Negro, Indian and White, these gentlewomen were sometimes educated in France, and were wealthy, had many slaves, and spoke French. Some whites of supposedly inmixed strain pretended to scorn them but they and their men were a power in the city. The word “Creole” itself is of African origin. African slaves in Peru called their children born there by that name.
